"Naija" - 1996 Land Rover Defender 110 CSW 300Tdi

South African Registered, but currently in Kazakhstan

Please read last post for update...

Long interesting history:

Used by South African High Commission in Lagos, NIGERIA from new until 2010, after which I purchased it and drove it down to Cape Town.

After importing and putting through roadworthy, I drove it all the way to Europe - this took 2 years and included some accidents and lots of corruption - busy writing a book about it, called More Manic Missions.

I don't really want to sell her, but I have no money and cannot leave her in France indefinately.

Ideally I am looking for an interested party to drive her back to Southern Africa for me.

There is no carnet required (stick to Western Route) and when you're done in South Africa there is no need for import or carnet deposits etc.

The car needs a new clutch - estimated cost 650 Euro including fitment.

The car is full of overlanding equipment and a library of travel books and maps for all of west africa.

I would want a deposit to let someone take the car and I would refund 50% of that deposit once it arrives in one piece in Southern Africa.

Smile

The Deposit is negotiable, otherwise an outright sale is also possible.

Make me an offer that is acceptable and I may just give her up!

Very Interested

Hi David,

Both the offer and the car are extremely interesting. I and another plan to drive from the uk/ europe to south africa next year and are looking for a vehicle whilst trying to keep costs low.

Is there a specific date that you would want her in SA by?

thanks
Dan

Hey Dan
2013 would be good.
Though I would prefer a previous/current Land Rover owner to do the voyage = and based on your posts regarding Toyotas, perhaps a Landcruiser is a better (though more costly) option for you?

I have decided to fetch my Landy in May, and drive it to Eastern Europe, where I will leave it for another 6 months until I can afford the next journey.

As to where I will leave her, so far it's looking like the Moto Camp in Bulgaria, or a friend in Romania.
Cannot leave it in Turkey without a lot of hassle from customs.

If anyone knows a cheap place for insurance of RHD non European vehicles, please let me know.

Allessi have quoted me a 3rd party cover only figure worth more than the car!

For sale again!

Hello fellow HUBBers.

I'm reluctantly putting up my beloved Naija for sale again.

She is currently in Karagandy, Kazakhstan.

I've finally given up on the brand, after spending too much money and becoming bitter.

A divorce is in order.

So far a local Kazakh from Almaty has made me an offer, but it doesn't even cover my last parts order (new cylinder head, water pump, radiator, timing belt)

There is also a Sankey trailer attached.

You can see where I've driven her here:

Please mail me or Skype to discuss further:

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
