So there you have it. One silly Brit, one BMW F650, All Jesse panniers and radiator guard, Helen Two Wheels soft luggage, Aeroflow, screen and headlight guard, Scottoiler, Eagle GPS, Toshiba camera, IBM laptop and oh yes some nifty Velcro neoprene fork gaiters that slip around the fork seals without having to remove the fork legs and I'm ready to leave Montana, head to LA. and air freight the bike down under on November 7th 1998. Want to know how it all turns out. Well tune in, same time, same channel, next month and see what fun and games I get up to with the customs in L.A. and Sydney Australia. More paperwork is assured. Till then ride safe and keep on dreaming.

The Dave and Sharon Home Page
After many months (a couple of years) of planning, Dave and Sharon Thompson set out from Champaign, IL, USA, 5 June 1997, on an around-the-world expedition on their BMW motorcycles (a 1981 R80G/S and a 1992 R100GS). Tentative plans were to first head down through Central and South America, then (sometime in early-to-mid 1998) fly or ship the bikes to South Africa, and travel up through Africa and across Europe, as far north as possible (Norway), maybe sometime about the middle of 1999. After that the plans get even more vague, but will involve heading east across Asia however it      seems like the best way to go at the time. Anticipated total time is anywhere from 2-3 years.

Awaken to Africa
On the 7th February 1993 at the age of 28 years, I began a journey that would change my life. To ride a motorcycle from South to North Africa. After fourteen months travelling Africa, I arrived in the UK (1995), where for twelve months, my trusty Yamaha TT600 and I "lived on the edge" racing around the congested streets of London. "We" worked for a West End motorcycle courier company. After writing my story (Nov.1996), and not finding a publisher, I headed home through Europe, Turkey, Central Asia, Siberia, bytrain across China and into Vietnam. In Hanoi, I placed my bike in storage (Transpo) and returned to Cairns, Australia. Six months on the road had worn me out - funds were low and I lacked the energy and enthusiasm to fully appreciate South-East Asia. I plan to return to Vietnam "end 2000" to complete the Asian-leg of my world motorcycle journey.
Countries: Kenya, Zaire, Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Birkino Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Krygerstan, Kazakstan, China and Vietnam.
