Complete Trip Overview & Map
Coming from Norway or
our previous visit to Denmark
22/8/10 We arrived in Denmark at Hirtshals and decided to head south, small roads, along the western coast. Our first impression, Denmark is flat, well at least compared to Norway. The wind was strong, which is probably why Denmark is one of the leading windmill manufacturers in the world, and is an extensive user of its products, particularly along this windy western coast, much of which is a reserve, the rest is sparsely inhabited, grass covered sand dunes, trees thin in the ground. By late afternoon we had arrived in Thorsminde, chose a lovely campground with a heated pool and that is used extensively by kite surfers, many who were still out on the water in late evening.
23/8/10 A still night and beautifully sunny morning,
but soon cloud and rain as we travelled the last 200 km's in the
country, stopping in the ancient town of Ribe for a break and apple
danish. Ribe dates back to the 9th century and has Viking excavations
in the middle of town as well as some lovely old timber and brick
houses. It was still raining as we crossed into Germany.
