HU Adventure Weekend Haggs Bank 2014

Horizons Unlimited Adventure Weekend
Friday 19th Sep - Sunday 21st Sep 2014 - Haggs Bank , Cumbria, UK

It's All About Overland Adventure

Whether you're a seasoned veteran with wisdom to share or a complete novice hungry for ideas and guidance, it doesn't matter if you ride a motorcycle, a bicycle, or drive an expedition vehicle...

Horizons Unlimited meetings are for everyone who dreams of adventure along the road less travelled.

What's happening and when

Following the overwhelming success of the first HU Mini Meet at Haggs Bank in 2013, Danny and Cathy will once again be hosting an activity meet (no presentations!) with loads of opportunities to get out and explore the North Pennines – England's Last Wilderness. Entry fee of £10 includes all weekend rides. Meals and accommodation priced separately.

19/09 - Friday

Friday night will be time to chill out round the bonfire, ready for an activity packed Saturday.

20/09 - Saturday

You'll be spoiled for choice with all the activities on offer for riders and non-riders alike!

Trail rides - to explore some of the local area and try out your handling skills – there will be limited space available and will be tailored to the ability of the people who sign up. Last year's ride lasted 5-6 hours covering some of the wilder areas of the moors. Matt from the TRF said it was some of the best off-roading he had done in years! So if you want to have a go please email us with the type of bike you've got and your experience so that the guide can plan the routes accordingly.

Offroad views.

Road tours - to enjoy the local scenery! Last year the road run covered 130 miles, through 3 counties and encompassed some of the more stunning scenic roads in this locality, including a stop at the famous Hartside Cafe! We were joined by some from the local bike club and even they commented that they had forgotten how beautiful this area was.

Mine Tour - A local fully qualified activity instructor will be running a couple of trips to take small groups (5-10 people) down the local disused lead mine. There will be a 3 hour trip into Smallcleugh Mine for £15pp or if you just fancy a taster he will also be running a 1 hour trip for £10pp. Safety helmets and lamps are provided but there's a good chance you'll get wet so you will need suitable footwear (wellies are ideal) and your scruffs!

Group walks - exploring 2 local beauty spots one natural, a pretty waterfall you can walk behind Ashgill Force and one manmade, Epiacum, described as "the best preserved fort in the Roman Empire!"

Discounted entry to nearby Killhope Mine, an interpretative former lead mine;

Cycle hire easily organised through North Pennine Cycles in nearby Nenthead and maps available of local cycle routes.

Saturday night we'll be having live music onsite from Sleeping Dogs, a great local rock band, a bonfire, bar and BBQ!

21/09 - Sunday

Sunday morning we'll all have the chance to watch part of the Beamish Trophy Trial which runs up the side of the site. 160 vehicles entered last year all manufactured before 1979 and most owners were above retirement age too!

Beamish Trophy Trial at Haggs Bank 2013.

This is an historic event now in its 41st year and is for motorbikes, sidecars and 3 wheeled vehicles. The entire route is just over 100 miles and has several off road sections around the route. The event is organised by the South Durham Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club. Anyone wanting to enter the event must be on a pre-1980 vehicle and has to register in advance.
