Through this blog David 'Irish' Anderson and Beth Anderson intend to document their upcoming adventure from Cork, Ireland to Cape Town, South Africa. The trip will begin in May 2013 after shipping our bikes from the USA. We plan to spend up to two years on the road with the blog focusing on the people and places we encounter along the way.
My wife and I have recently retired so we decided to spend 3 months touring the United States of America. Our plan was to air-freight our BMW 1200GS to Toronto and then try to ride through as many states as possible within the 3 month period, thereby completing a loop of the USA finishing back in Toronto.
The reason we flew to Toronto rather than starting in the US is because we had heard it was much easier to get through customs in Canada than the US and we can confirm it was very straightforward and easy to collect our bike from the Customs in Toronto and also much easier to cross into America via road than airport.
We started a blog to keep family and friends informed of our route but then realised the blog had been forwarded to many people who were regularly following it. Up to now we can see from the Audience section people from Russia, Germany, Australia, Canada as well as the US & UK have been viewing the blog so as I am a regular viewer of the HUBB and enjoy other people's stories, we thought maybe our blog could be of interest to other riders embarking on a first trip to the States.
We have motorcycled in many different countries over the years but always hired BMWs - so this is the first time I have taken my own motorcycle abroad (other than to Europe).
