La SURAMÉRICA que recorrí (The South America I rode )

Edition year: 2012
HorizonsUnlimited reviews:

Between October 28, 2008 and April 9, 2009, I made a motorcycle tour through the South American continent, with Colombia as a point of departure and arrival. This trip had been intended for thirty-four years and planned for two and a half. It was not my intention to go all the continent and all its details and beauty. The general idea was to go through the following major geographic areas:

• The Andes in its entirety.

• Patagonia.

• La Pampa.

I did not intend to cover in my visit complete areas, not all areas of a country, or all countries of the continent, would be impossible in such a short time.

My traveling companion was excellent Suzi, a Suzuki DR-650, 2008 model. His performance on all types of roads was perfect, both in the high mountain at 5,100 m, as at sea level at high speed, the idea of writing a book came five months after completing the journey while writing a short report I DeMotos magazine had commissioned in Colombia. While writing the report came to mind forgotten passages and then I found it interesting to try to write down everything he remembered to have for me and my family a complete record of the experiences. So the grandchildren, or their grandchildren may someday read the story of the crazy grandfather who was on a motorcycle. Then I started writing the reports in the order of the trip.

The photographs, the road log and blog texts complemented HU memories I carry in my head. When he had advanced the story, I also appreciated that I could share it with those who are also waiting for that opportunity I waited for so many years, that is, to you dear reader. The end result was 400 pages that are intended to be read not only by motorcyclists who like traveling, but for anyone who has a high affinity for the adventure, but real adventure, not fiction.

I chose as the narrative chapters six major geographical regions, without this meaning that the boundaries between them are absolute and marked. By contrast, two regions there is usually a huge transition, nor the regions are limited by countries. At the beginning of each chapter, I present a scheme to map how the route traveled to reading more understandable.

NOTE: The book is written in Spanish.
